When you try to start a Microsoft Office 2010 application, you receive the following message:

"Your beta software has expired. Use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel to remove the beta software from your computer."

    This issue occurs because the beta version of the Office 2010 application that you are using has expired. The beta 1 and beta 2 versions of the Office 2010 applications expire on the following dates:

• 2010 Microsoft Office Beta 1: October 31, 2010
• 2010 Microsoft Office Beta 2: November 1, 2010

 

To resolve this issue, Uninstall the beta version of the office 2010.

    If you have problems uninstalling the beta version of the Office 2010 application, visit How do I uninstall Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 suites if I cannot uninstall it from Control Panel

    If you try to install the release version of Office 2010 while the beta version is installed you may receive an error. Today, I have received an email from XMarks saying that It will end the service by Jan 2011. Following is the content of the email.

In their blog they have mentioned that they are closing as they are running out of money. Following is the message from Xmarks:

"By Spring 2010, with money running tight and options fading, we started searching for potential buyers of the company. Over the past three months, we have been remarkably close to striking a deal, only to have the potential buyer get cold feet. We also considered refocusing Xmarks as a freemium sync business, but the prospects there are grim too: with the emergence of competent sync features built in to Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, it’s hard to see users paying for a service that they can now get for free. For four years we have offered the synchronization service for no charge, predicated on the hypothesis that a business model would emerge to support the free service. With that investment thesis thwarted, there is no way to pay expenses, primarily salary and hosting costs. Without the resources to keep the service going, we must shut it down. Our plan is to keep the service running for another 90+ days, after which the plug will be pulled.

The past four years have been a wild ride for us: growing something from nothing to substantial scale, providing a simple service that people love because it simplifies their lives. We’ve learned tons along the way, often by making big mistakes. We’re really sorry that this last lesson means that you’ll have to find an alternative to Xmarks, but the alternatives exist and you’ll have no problem finding them.     I recently blogged about gmail's "Call phone" feature which enables you to call from gmail to phone. Google says that this feature is only available in the US. But, if you set Gmail's language to English (US), you should see the "Call phone" option in the chat roster in all countries. You can also buy credit using Google Checkout.

    If you're not in the US and you want to add credit to your account, make sure that you DON'T CLICK the "Upgrade your account" button from Google Voice. It lets you get a Google Voice number, which is available only in the US right now. Unfortunately, if you click on that button and you're not in the US, you'll no longer be able to buy credit. 

You will get the following Error message if you click on "Upgrade your account":

"Google Voice is not available in your country. Thanks for visiting Google Voice. We're not yet open for users outside the US, but are planning to expand our service to additional countries in the future."

    I don't find any way to downgrade your account outside US (You can cancel the upgrade if you use a US proxy), so the best thing to do is to avoid clicking that button. A Google spokesperson said: "We're looking into this and will keep you updated."

 

[Update]: The "Upgrade your account" button is no longer displayed to the users outside US. Google has fixed the bug.

    Have you received a call from +1-760-705-8888? It's someone calling you from their gmail account. It's probably a friend testing it out since the service just rolled out. This is the number that shows up when someone calls you from the new google voice program. It's somebody calling you from their gmail account.

    In Google voice blog they have mentioned "We’re rolling out this feature to U.S. based Gmail users over the next few days, so you’ll be ready to get started once “Call Phones” shows up in your chat list (you will need to install the voice and video plug-in if you haven’t already).". But, I have got this in my Singapore based Gmail account and I am able to make phone calls too. You get an initial calling credit ($0.10) and calls to US and Canada if free for this year from your Gmail. 

    If you install the "voice and video chat plug-in" from google, you can call phones in the US and Canada for free in 2010. You can also call in other countries, but you'll have to pay, and Google's rates are really low and the service is cheaper than Skype.

    "Calls to the U.S. and Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year and calls to other countries will be billed at our very low rates. We worked hard to make these rates really cheap with calls to the U.K., France, Germany, China, Japan — and many more countries — for as little as $0.02 per minute," informs Google.

Call to India costs 0.06 USD and which is still cheaper than Skype.

This evening when I was returning home from work, I received a call from Unknown number, As I was expecting a overseas call from my friend, I picked up the phone. The person who called my phone introduced himself as david and working for Singapore government travel agency called Rest Relax Pte Ltd. As he mentioned Singapore government in his conversation, I thought let me listen what he is telling. He told my phone number and verified if it is right. He also asked me if I am a citizen or EP holder. I told him that I am a EP holder. After that he told me that their company is celebrating 6th anniversary, so they have conducted a lucky draw and I am the one among the 6 lucky people. 

He told he will be sending a courier person to my office with the gift. He was claiming that the gift will have the following items

1.  Rest relax asia membership card.

2.  One day stay at century surya hotel in langkawi for upto 6 persons may be your friends or family members.

3.  One day stay at Atrium hotel singapore.

4.  3 Gift vouchers for restaurant  in Singapore, each worth $20

5.  $150 worth spa gift voucher.

After that he started explaining about the benefits of gift voucher. he was claiming the following benefits.

·     70% discounts in any hotels worldwide!!!  (I have asked him if it is upto 70% or 70% exactly, he confirmed exact 70%)

·     10 % discount in air tickets with any airlines. (He told you don't even have to book tickets through their agency). 

·     40% discount in any tourist place entry tickets all over the world. he was telling Singapore flyer for example.

He was also told me that you can book tickets for any of your friends using this membership card and you can even give the card to your friend with your permission.

To get all these benefits, I just need to pay for $69.00 which is just the tax amount for the gift. I asked him how did he got my number, he told through Singapore government and they get phone numbers of all the people who enters the country. After telling all these things he asked me to give him my company address so that he can send the courier person. I said I don't have my company address with me now and I can give him after  reaching home or next day morning (thinking in mind that let me verify the information about the company before doing anything further). I asked him his company web site and it is www.restrelax.asia/.

 

After reaching home I googled about the company and found that many people have received call from this company claiming the same thing that they have told me. I found many people asking the company to send the email, and they have declined to send email saying that they don't have permission to send email. Some people who accepted the offer also posted comments saying that it is not even worth for single cent. So, people, be aware of this company and don't get impressed  by the offers provided by these people and pay the money which is not worth for anything. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

1.  I checked their website and most of the links are not working.

2.  At the end of the conversation, he asked me my name I asked, why he don’t get my name also from government. he replied saying that he gets only the phone number, not the name.

3.  I tried who is search on the domain name restrelax.asia and could not find any details. 

4.  While googling I found an Indian job website which posted the following details. I hope the person who has called me also called from Chennai as the phone number identity is hidden, I could not confirm.
